First Essex Network Sportshall season ends on a high It was a morning of high quality competition and some superb performances as the third and final Aviva Sportshall fixture hosted this Autumn by the Essex Athletics Network took place at Chelmsford on Saturday. With a bumper 115 entries across the Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 age groups and the track races seeded based on results from the first two rounds at Upminster and Southend, the season was always going to end on a high and the event certainly lived up to expectations with excitement whipped up by Regional organiser Adam Burgesses' expert commentary. The meeting arrangements were skilfully coordinated by Chelmsford's Athletics Development Officer Karen Stephanou and the team of helpers on the day from the Chelmsford club, the Sport & Athletics Centre and other Network clubs ensued a slick finish to the three-match season. With the many excellent performances on the day Network Activator Tony Benton again had a hard decision in selecting the winners of the Athlete of the Match tee-shirts - with the winners from Round 1 & 2 not being eligible this time. But stand out performances from Chiamaka Okafor (Chelmsford) who won the Under 13 two-lap race, high jump and shot, and Thurrock's James Pearson, with victories in both Under 13 shot & standing triple jump and runner up to previous award winner Eden Olu in the two-lap race, earned the best performance awards. . The results from the three fixtures have been considered by Team Managers for the Under 11s Wendy & Kirsty Tydeman (Basildon) and invitations have been sent out for 15 boys & 15 girls to make up the Essex teams to take part in the Fun in Athletics Regional Final at Norwich on 21st January. Under 13 & Under 15 teams will be selected by team manager Graham & Karen Knight shortly for the Regional Final, also at Norwich on 4th February. Link to Results (pdf) 7th Dec 2011 |
