Sportshall Under 11 teams raise the roof at Norwich Festival

The Essex Under 11 teams came close to victory at the East Region Aviva Fun in Athletics Sportshall Festival at Norwich on Saturday but if there had been a prize for the best supported team by all accounts they would have won!

The squad all did themselves and their fantastic supporters proud as they came close to victory, losing out by 12 points in finishing runners up to Herts Phoenix in the girls' contest, and finishing third in a three-way battle for the boys' crown just 18 points off winners Norfolk & six points behind Herts.

It wasn't just about brilliant individual results - and the team had a few - but about every athlete's points that made it such a close battle.

As well as the support from family & friends the team were helped to achieve their best by the efforts of team managers Wendy & Kirsty Tydeman, and their assistants Lynn Talbert & Lisa Dooley.

"I can't begin describe what a brilliant day we had," said an excited Wendy afterwards. "The team all supported each other and the spectators were amazing with their encouragement - they sounded like the loudest group there! Kirsty, Lynn, Lisa and myself were so proud of our team and our supporters & we can't wait for next year"

Network Activator Tony Benton concluded “A massive 'Thank you' to Wendy & Kirsty who really worked hard in the run up to the competition to put the team through their paces. The thanks of all the parents and athletes afterwards showed that all those efforts were worthwhile & much appreciated. This is only the second year back in this competition for an Essex team after a long break and we're learning year by year, so having got so close to winning this year look out for us in 2013!
