QuadKids takes off at Harlow.

Sixty enthusiastic youngsters aged eight to 13 enjoyed the first QuadKids competition organised by Harlow AC with help from the Essex Athletics Network at an often cold and windy Mark Hall track on Tuesday 12th July.

There were some excellent performances on the night with three athletes achieving UKA Gold Awards and another eight reaching the silver and bronze standards.  The standards of achievement were very high in some of the individual events – in particular the 600m where seven athletes, four boys and three girls, dipped under two minutes – showing a great range of up and coming talent in the locality.

Harlow’s experienced middle distance coach John Stow, who assists on the local coach development programme, was supportive of the event commenting “This was a magnificent turn out from Harlow A.C. and other local youngsters and demonstrates how the club is growing on the youth front. There were some excellent performances on a cold and windy night.'

Helen Offord, Community & Leisure Policy Officer for Harlow Council, who worked closely with Harlow AC Chairman Alecx Steele in setting up the event, said “Harlow Athletics Club have many excellent coaches, volunteers and officials, who all came together on the night and helped. They worked their socks off and really pulled together to make this a success which I think was a great opportunity for us all as a club. Thanks also to Tony Benton from the Essex Athletics Network for sharing his advice and for his hard work on the night.”

Tony Benton, the Essex Network Activator, concluded “I’m delighted that Harlow AC took up the challenge to organise the first QuadKids event in the area and that so many of their talented young athletes took part, achieving such fantastic results, which is a great credit to the club and its coaches. Everyone at the club learnt a lot from this first experience of QuadKids and I’ve already agreed to help again at the follow up event to make it even bigger and better!
