All-round win for Ashleigh Lewis caps Essex Sportshall
return An
individual victory in the Under 15 Girls' all-rounder competition by
Havering Mayesbrook's Ashleigh Lewis to qualify for the National Final
capped an excellent team performance and confirmed that Essex are well &

11 teams came close to victory at the East Region Aviva Fun in Athletics
Sportshall Festival at Norwich on Saturday but if there had been a prize

Last Wednesday at Histon, Cambridgeshire was an evening to celebrate the
achievements of club officials,

Cedar Hall sponsors

The second coach education workshop organised by the Essex McCain’s
Athletics Network, in conjunction with the network’s external partners
SEEVIC College, Benfleet gave coaches much to food for thought as the
College’s Rebecca Cruickshank delivered an expert session on “Nutrition
and the competitive athlete”..

Sportshall season gets
underway in Essex:
The 2011 Sportshall
season got off to a flying start at Upminster on Saturday with the first
of three Sportshall fixtures run by the Essex Athletics Network. The opening at Coopers' Company and Coborn School, Upminster
attracted over 70 entrants, many competing for the first time.

Second Harlow QuadKids
events build on success:
Another chilly and
breezy evening at Harlow’s Mark Hall track on Tuesday 20th
September didn’t prevent an enjoyable second QuadKids competition
organised by Harlow AC with help from the Essex Athletics Network as
almost 60 youngsters battled it out to post new marks and improve on
their previous scores.

Benfleet go solo with
QuadKids event After
earlier joint forays into QuadKids competitions with Basildon and East
Essex Triathlon Club, Benfleet Juniors Running Club successfully ran
their own fixture at a seasonally warm but breezy Chelmsford Sports and
Athletics Centre on Saturday 10th September.

This FREE coach education workshop will now take place at Holiday Inn,
Basildon on Friday 21st October, led by Rebecca Cruickshank from SEEVIC College, will provide

issue of nutritional adequacy for growth and development for young
athletes.

All clubs need volunteer officials to help out at their fixtures, home &
away. Most leagues now award extra points for officials so not having
enough officials can affect how well your team does. To encourage

Fifteen
coaches from clubs in the Essex McCain’s Athletics Network gave positive
feedback about the value of the second coach education workshop,
arranged on Monday 18th July in conjunction with the Network’s external
partners, Writtle College on using video analysis to improve sprinting
and running performance.

at Havering QuadKids Festival:
Weeks of careful planning, including
hours of discussion, came to fruition on Thursday 23rd
September with two noisy and enjoyable QuadKids competitions for

Havering team win
London Youth Games Super8 Title.
In the exciting atmosphere of the National Athletics Stadium at Crystal
Palace on Saturday (18th June), Havering’s young athletes - managed by
Havering Mayesbrook's Doug & Jean Tierney put up a tremendous
performance to win the London Youth Games Super 8 competition beating six
other London Boroughs in the process.

Preventing, treating &
recovering from injuries workshop:
Coaches from the Essex McCain’s Athletics Network were full of praise
for the first coach education workshop organised in conjunction with the
network’s external partners SEEVIC College, Benfleet as Rebecca

All Ability Athletics
Challenge celebrates 500 days to the Paralympics A
fantastic competition for people with a disability, took place in Harlow
on Saturday 16th April at Mark Hall Athletics Track with over
50 participants from all over Essex taking part in events such as 60m,
100m and 200m races, javelin, long jump, shot and distance club.
