What are our aims for coach development and education?

To ensure that clubs have sufficient coaches with increased levels of skill, knowledge and experience through a network wide programme of coach education.

What are we doing?

  • Promoting national coaching course opportunities and encouraging new & existing coaches & assistant coaches in Network clubs to attend & support these through the award of coaching bursaries

  • Arranging & delivering a programme of six generic coach education sessions (e.g. sports nutrition, video analysis, sports psychology, biomechanics) through our academic partners Writtle & SEEVIC Colleges.

  • Arranging & delivering a programme of event specific coach education sessions (e.g. hurdles, triple jump, high jump and pole vault), as informed by the baseline audit, where feasible using a team of NCDP and other experienced coaches within Network clubs.

  • Facilitating arrangements for coaches & selected athletes to join training sessions with other more experienced coaches/athletes

  • Developing a mentoring structure & processes through key event coaches to improve the knowledge and skills of all levels of coaches throughout the network

  • Facilitating arrangements for coaches & selected athletes to join training sessions with other more experienced coaches/athletes

  • Supporting clubs in developing and implementing an identifiable club coaching structure e.g. all clubs have a coaching co-ordinator who has an agreed role description and all coaches have a clear link to a head coach or event specific coach.

  • Promoting England Athletic and CCSO ‘Flying Coach’ visits and support coaches and clubs to access the programme.
